Major traditional libraries particularly the academic libraries turned to electronic or digital libraries and offered information services without boundaries. The library users could access library resources from any where at any time. The changing face of the library services supported the life-long learning environment and toward developing the learning society in the country.
The introduction of information technology and automated library systems to the library has made these things happened. This paper addresses the acquisition and deployment of technology affecting such development.
1.1 Introduction

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the aim and objectives of the study. Others are significance of the study, scope of work, research hypothesis and questions, limitation of the study and definition of terms.
