1.1 Introduction
A computerized poultry farm system is an automated software-based solution designed to assist poultry farmers in managing daily farm operations such as bird inventory, feed management, vaccination schedules, egg production records, mortality tracking, sales, and financial reporting. It integrates data storage and processing techniques to improve accuracy, reduce human error, and enhance decision making in poultry farm management. According to Smith and Johnson, computerized agricultural systems have become essential tools for improving productivity and ensuring better resource utilization in modern farming practices (Smith & Johnson, 2020). The increasing demand for poultry products has made it necessary for farmers to adopt more efficient and technology-driven approaches to farm management. Traditional methods of record keeping using paper-based systems are often prone to loss of data, duplication of records, and delayed decision making (Adeyemi & Okoro, 2021).
As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitation of the study and Definition of technical terms.
1.2 Background of Study
The evolution of record-keeping in poultry farming has undergone significant changes over time, transitioning from traditional manual methods to digital solutions. Historically, poultry farmers relied on handwritten logs, notebooks, and ledgers to document essential farm records such as feeding schedules, vaccination history, egg production, and financial transactions (Olomu, 2011). While these methods were widely used, they were prone to inaccuracies, data loss, and inefficiencies, which hindered effective decision-making (Smith & Brown, 2018). The introduction of mechanical record-keeping tools in the mid-20th century, such as typewriters and filing systems, marked the first step toward improved data management in poultry farms. However, these tools still required significant human effort and were limited in their ability to analyze data efficiently (Adeoye et al., 2020). With the advancement of computing technology in the late 20th century, businesses, including agricultural enterprises, began adopting digital solutions for record management (FAO, 2020).
Today, modern computerized poultry record-keeping systems incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to automate data collection and analysis. These innovations have significantly improved productivity, biosecurity, and profitability in poultry farming (Johnson & Lee, 2022). The continuous development of digital record-keeping solutions is expected to revolutionize the poultry industry, making farm management more efficient and data-driven. Poultry farming plays a significant role in global food production, providing a major source of protein through eggs and meat.
According to FAO (2020), poultry farming contributes substantially to the agricultural sector, supporting food security and economic development. However, effective management of poultry farms requires accurate and efficient record-keeping, which is essential for tracking production trends, health status, and financial transactions (Olomu, 2011). Traditionally, poultry farmers have relied on manual methods such as notebooks and ledgers to record farm activities. While these methods have been widely used, they present several challenges, including susceptibility to errors, data loss, and difficulty in retrieving historical records (Adeoye et al., 2020). The inefficiencies of manual record-keeping have led to poor decision-making, which affects farm productivity and profitability (Smith & Brown, 2018).
With advancements in information technology, computerized systems have become an essential tool for modernizing poultry farm management. A computerized record-keeping system enables farmers to store, retrieve, and analyze data more efficiently, reducing errors and improving farm operations (Ajayi et al., 2019). Such systems provide automation, data security, and real-time access to vital information, facilitating better decision-making and enhancing farm productivity (Ogunleye & Yusuf, 2021).
The challenges encountered that led to the execution of the research work is that, farmers who depend on manual logs often struggle with maintaining long-term records, making it difficult to analyze trends or forecast farm performance (Ogunleye & Yusuf, 2021). Without an efficient system, poultry farmers face difficulties in monitoring production rates, managing expenses, and ensuring proper disease control measures (FAO, 2020). It is against the background that the developments of a computerized system will have economic benefits by reducing financial losses resulting from poor record management. With improved monitoring and analysis of farm performance, poultry farmers will be able to optimize their operations, increase efficiency, and enhance overall farm sustainability.
1.3 Statement of Problem
Investigation revealed that many poultry farmers still rely on manual record-keeping methods, which are often inefficient, prone to human errors, and susceptible to data loss (Olomu, 2011). The challenge with paper-based systems is that they make it difficult to track flock health, feeding patterns, production rates, and financial transactions accurately. This lack of reliable data affects decision-making and hinders farm growth (Smith & Brown, 2018).
The issue of data security is another concern, as physical records are vulnerable to loss due to fire, water damage, or misplacement. farmers who depend on manual logs often struggle with maintaining long-term records, making it difficult to analyze trends or forecast farm performance (Ogunleye & Yusuf, 2021). Without an efficient system, poultry farmers face difficulties in monitoring production rates, managing expenses, and ensuring proper disease control measures (FAO, 2020).
Furthermore, data management in poultry farming is becoming increasingly complex, especially for large-scale operations. The inability to efficiently store and retrieve records often results in mismanagement of farm resources, leading to wastage, financial loss, and reduced farm efficiency (Adeoye et al., 2020). Additionally, traditional methods of record-keeping require significant time and effort, making farm operations more tedious and reducing the time available for critical farm activities (Ajayi et al., 2019).
1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of the study is to design and implement a Computerized Poultry Farm System that enhances efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility in farm management. The specific objectives of the study are:

1.5 Significance of Study
This study will be significant in various ways, particularly in enhancing poultry farm management through digital record-keeping. The implementation of a computerized system will improve the accuracy and efficiency of data collection, reducing the errors associated with manual record-keeping. Farmers will benefit from real-time access to essential farm records, enabling them to make informed decisions that enhance productivity and profitability.
Additionally, the system will provide a secure and organized platform for maintaining poultry records, ensuring that critical data such as feeding schedules, vaccination history, and financial transactions are easily accessible and well-preserved.

1.7 Limitations of the Study
During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:
- Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
- Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).
