    ABSTRACT


    A Computer Based Stadium Management Information System is a digital platform designed to collect, process, store, and manage information related to stadium operations in an integrated and efficient manner. The aim of this study is to design and implement a Computer Based Stadium Management Information System that addresses these problems by integrating core stadium functions into a unified digital platform that improves accountability, service delivery, and overall management effectiveness. The motivation for this study arises from the numerous challenges associated with traditional stadium management systems, including manual record keeping, revenue leakage, poor coordination among departments, ticket fraud, overcrowding, and delayed reporting.

    The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The result of the developed system are positive, as the system could be used to create a database of customers in the stadium, better the administrative process of the stadium management, therefore making the general running of the stadium easier and efficient. The system also contributes to improved customer experience by streamlining ticket purchasing, seat allocation, and communication channels.

    The study will also provide a fast and accurate way of managing the sales/booking of tickets, it will aid in verifying ticket numbers, and reports of tickets sold for each game can be queried. The expected result from the proposed system is an efficient, reliable, and secure stadium management platform that enhances operational performance and financial accountability. The system is expected to reduce revenue losses, improve data accuracy, facilitate real-time reporting, and enhance safety during events.



    1.1 Introduction

    A Computer Based Stadium Management Information System is a computerized platform designed to collect, process, store, and disseminate information required for the efficient administration and coordination of stadium operations. It integrates various functional units such as ticketing, event scheduling, facility management, financial accounting, security coordination, and customer service into a unified digital system. A management information system is defined as an organized combination of people, hardware, software, communication networks, and data resources that collects and transforms information to support decision-making and control within an organization (Laudon & Laudon, 2020). In the context of stadium operations, such a system is essential for managing large volumes of data generated before, during, and after sporting or entertainment events.

    As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study.     1.2 Background of Study

    The evolution of information and communication technology has significantly transformed organizational management across various sectors, including sports and event management. A Computer Based Stadium Management Information System emerges from the broader concept of Management Information Systems, which according to Laudon and Laudon (2020), is a coordinated integration of hardware, software, data, procedures, and people designed to support decision-making and control in organizations. In the context of stadium administration, such a system is essential for coordinating complex operations that involve large crowds, multiple service units, financial transactions, and strict security requirements. As stadiums continue to expand their roles beyond sporting events to include concerts, conferences, and community programs, the demand for efficient information handling becomes increasingly critical.

    Historically, stadium management relied heavily on manual record-keeping and fragmented administrative structures. Ticket sales were processed manually, attendance records were stored in paper files, and communication between departments was conducted through memos and physical documentation. O'Brien and Marakas (2011) stated that manual systems often result in duplication of effort, delayed reporting, and limited access to timely information, which reduce operational efficiency. In large stadium settings where thousands of spectators gather, inefficiencies in data management may lead to overcrowding, ticket fraud, financial discrepancies, and poor coordination of security personnel. These challenges demonstrate the urgent need for digital solutions capable of centralizing and automating administrative processes.

    The rapid growth of digital technology has influenced expectations in the sports and entertainment industries. Stair and Reynolds (2018) asserted that information systems enhance organizational performance by ensuring accurate, real-time data processing and effective resource management. In stadium environments, computerized systems enable electronic ticketing, automated seat allocation, real-time attendance tracking, and financial monitoring. These features not only reduce human error but also improve transparency and accountability. For instance, digital ticket validation minimizes the risk of counterfeit tickets and unauthorized access, thereby strengthening crowd control measures and enhancing spectator safety.

    Security management in stadiums has become increasingly complex due to rising concerns about public safety. Modern stadiums must implement reliable systems for surveillance, emergency response coordination, and access control. Laudon and Laudon (2020) reported that integrated information systems provide a framework for monitoring activities and responding promptly to security threats. Without computerized systems, the ability to track crowd movement, verify ticket authenticity, and coordinate security personnel becomes limited.

    O'Brien and Marakas (2011) affirmed that automated information systems improve financial accuracy by reducing manual errors and enhancing internal control mechanisms. Manual accounting processes increase the likelihood of revenue leakage, delayed reporting, and inconsistencies in financial documentation. A centralized computerized system ensures that all financial transactions are recorded, processed, and reported systematically, supporting transparency and informed decision-making.

    Customer experience has also become a defining factor in modern stadium management. Spectators expect convenience, speed, and seamless access to services. Stair and Reynolds (2018) contend that digital systems enhance service delivery by improving communication and operational coordination. Online ticket booking platforms, electronic payment systems, and real-time event notifications significantly enhance user satisfaction. In contrast, traditional manual processes often lead to long queues, misplaced reservations, and communication breakdowns that frustrate patrons and reduce overall event appeal.

    The background of this study is therefore rooted in the growing recognition that traditional administrative methods are insufficient for managing contemporary stadium operations. Technological innovation has redefined expectations in service delivery, financial accountability, and security management. Organizations that fail to adopt computerized management systems risk inefficiency, revenue loss, safety concerns, and diminished public confidence. The transformation toward digital management solutions reflects a broader global trend of leveraging information systems to enhance organizational performance and sustainability.

    This study is set against the backdrop of increasing demand for efficient, secure, and transparent stadium management systems capable of integrating ticketing, financial operations, event scheduling, security coordination, and customer service into a unified computerized platform.


    1.3 Statement of Problem

    Investigation revealed the following problems involved in the computer based stadium management information system:

    1. Ticket sales are often handled through paper-based or loosely coordinated methods, leading to inaccuracies in seat allocation, duplication of tickets, and difficulty in tracking attendance.
    2. Record keeping in the current system is largely manual, making data retrieval slow and inefficient.
    3. Communication between departments such as security, maintenance, ticketing, and administration is not fully integrated. During large gatherings, the absence of real-time monitoring tools limits the ability of management to control crowd movement and respond promptly to security concerns.
    4. Furthermore, the existing system does not adequately support modern technological demands such as online ticket booking, automated access control, and digital reporting. As a result, stadium operations remain inefficient, time-consuming, and vulnerable to errors and fraud.

    1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

    The aim of the Study is to develop a Computer Based Stadium Management Information System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to:

    1. Design a comprehensive Computer Based Stadium Management Information System that integrates ticketing, scheduling, security, and financial management into a unified platform.
    2. Develop a centralized database system for efficient storage, retrieval, and management of stadium operational data.
    3. Create an automated ticketing and seat allocation module that improves accuracy, reduces fraud, and enhances customer convenience.
    4. Implement a computerized financial management component that ensures accurate transaction recording, reporting, and accountability.
    5. Develop and implement a real-time monitoring and reporting feature that supports effective decision-making, crowd control, and overall stadium administration.

    1.5 Significance of Study

    The benefits of the proposed computer based student stadium information management system, are as follows;

    1. The proposed system will manage ticket reservations and making it easier for the user to book tickets and pay electronically.
    2. It will reduce the costs of organizing an event in the stadium at any point in time which will give the management more time to create awareness about events through other means.
    3. It reduces the wastage of overall promotion materials and pre-printed tickets which will in many cases will not make it to the target customers.
    4. It ensures effective monitoring and checking by the administration at the comfort of their internet devices.
    5. It makes for orderliness in the entire stadium environment.

    1.6 Scope of the Study

    The scope of the research is focused on design and implementation of a computer based stadium management information system. This study will concentrate on designing and developing an online stadium booking website, as well as an administrative site with information management mechanism using the Godswill Akpabio international stadium, Uyo as a case study.

    Only booking features, payment features, customer database, and ticket confirmation features will be available in the design. This limitation is posed by majorly financial and time constraints since it is only a proof of an idea.


    1.7 Limitations of the Study

    During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

    1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
    2. Establishment Policies: Establishment policies posed a serious limitation as most staffs are not ready to release information needed for this project work. There were lots of information needed from the staffs of this institution to enhance the study which took them time to release or they did not release at all for security purposes, hence the scope was reduced.
    3. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

    1.8 Definition of Terms

    Stadium: Arena with tiered seats, a place where people watch sports or other activities, usually a large enclosed flat area surrounded by tiers of seats for spectators.

    Ticket: A printed piece of cardboard or paper showing that the holder is entitled to admission to a place of public entertainment or a sports facility.

    Football Industry: Football is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football normally means the form of football that is the most popular where the word is used.
