ABSTRACT

Computerized tailoring management system is a system aimed to assist in management of tailoring activities within the industry. It will provide online services to customers such as: measurement submission to their tailors, check whether their garments are finished and also help in proper keeping of records. The aim of the study is to design and implement A Computerized Tailoring Shop Management System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will automate the current manual tailoring system and maintain a searchable customer, product database, maintain data security and user rights, enable customers to send their measurements to their tailors for their clothes to be made and compute the total cost depending on the selected fabric, type of material, quantity and duration and avails that information to the customer.

The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that alot of customers have to walk to the tailor shops to get their measurements taken for the tailoring of their garments. Their details are taken and kept on papers. Customers too need to move from their offices to go and check for the clothes whether there complete or not. This is time consuming and costly. Due to the manual systems in use, the whole process tends to be slow. Customers too have no prior information on cost of netting their garments.

The methodology adopted in this study is the object oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The significance of the proposed system will break the geographical barriers and bring the whole process into a quick and easy way to access tailors. The expected result is A Computerized Tailoring Shop Management System that will enable customers to send their measurements to their tailors for their clothes to be made and provide information about the cost, the fabric type, the urgency at which a customer wants the dress finished, the type of material to be used and quantity in terms of pairs needed.

Design and Implementation of a Computerized Tailoring Shop Management System

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Computerized tailoring management system is a system aimed to assist in management of tailoring activities within the industry. It will provide online services to customers such as: measurement submission to their tailors, check whether their garments are finished and also help in proper keeping of records. This will ensure availability of right information, information safety, easy storage, access and retrieval. The study aims at building a computerized tailoring management system that would be more effective and efficient than the existing manual system. Tailor Shop Management assists with dealing with all requests/deals, clients, salary, costs, estimations, so you can keep things composed and get a point by point report of your style business while you focus on other significant things. The internet tailoring management system is a system planned to aid the management of tailoring exercises inside the business. It will offer online types of assistance to clients.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.

1.2 Background of Study

Tailoring has been known to be commanded by unlearned individuals. It has been viewed as a calling for the dropouts in the Kenyan systems and somewhere else. Tailors utilize customary manual systems to book in their customers. The customers need to go to the area of the tailor shop to get their estimations taken. These estimations are composed on papers or books. This strategy represents a high danger as far as security of their data i.e., can get lost, unapproved individuals can without much of a stretch access the data, information classification, and uprightness not kept up. No legitimate reinforcements and the system is dreary.

The computerized tailoring management system will take care of every one of these issues and computerize the tailor shops and improve openness independent of geological areas gave there is the web. As of now, clients need to stroll to the tailor shops to get their estimations taken for the tailoring of their articles of clothing. Their subtleties are taken and kept on paper. Clients also need to move from their workplaces to proceed to check for the garments whether there complete or not. This is tedious and exorbitant. Because of the manual systems being used, the entire procedure will in general be moderate. Clients also have no earlier data on the expense of mesh their articles of clothing.

Tailoring has been known to be dominated by unlearned people. It has been seen as a profession for the drop outs in the Nigerian systems and elsewhere. Tailors use traditional manual systems to book in their clients. The clients have to travel to location of the tailor shop to get their measurement taken. These measurements are written on papers or books. This method pose a high threat in terms of security of their information i.e., can get lost, unauthorized people can easily access the information, data confidentiality and integrity not maintained. No proper backups and the system is tedious. Computerized tailoring shop management system will solve all these problems and automate the tailor shops and enhance accessibility irrespective of geographical locations provided there is internet.

1.3 Statement of Problem

Investigation revealed that, currently customers have to walk to the tailor shops to get their measurements taken for the tailoring of their garments. Their details are taken and kept on papers. Customers too need to move from their offices to go and check for the clothes whether there complete or not. This is time consuming and costly. Due to the manual systems in use, the whole process tends to be slow. Customers too have no prior information on cost of netting their garments

1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of the study is to design and implement a Computerized Tailoring Shop Management System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will:

  1. Automate the current manual tailoring system and maintain a searchable customer, product database, maintain data security and user rights.
  2. Enable customers to send their measurements to their tailors for their clothes to be made.
  3. Provide information about the cost, the fabric type, the urgency at which a customer wants the dress finished, the type of material to be used and quantity in terms of pairs needed.
  4. Enable report generation of the daily activities carried out in the tailoring shop.
  5. Create a data bank for easy access or retrieval of customer details, orders placed and the users who registered to the system.
  6. Compute the total cost depending on the selected fabric, type of material, quantity and duration and avails that information to the customer.

1.5 Significance of Study

The proposed system will break the geographical barriers and bring the whole process into a quick and easy way to access tailors. It will automate the traditional tailoring system into a modern computerized system. This will enhance data retrieval, storage and security. It is also cost effective since it will cut down on travelling cost to get your measurements taken and also going to check if your clothe has been made and is ready for collection. The clients can access their online tailors 24/7 and at any location provided they are connected to the internet. Due to the advancement in telecommunication e.g. undersea cabling, internet accessing speed is expected to double as the cost reduces. This will make this system more efficient to use and offer a competitive edge in the market.

This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.

1.6 Scope of Study

The scope of the research is focused on the Design and Implementation of a Computerized Tailoring Shop Management System.

1.7 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  3. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  4. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

1.8 Definition of Terms

Tailor: A tailor is one that makes, repairs, and alters garments such as suits, coats, and dresses.

Computer: Computer is an electronic device that accepts data as Input, processes data and gives out information as output to the user.

Software: Software is set of related programs that are designed by the manufacturer to control the hardware and to enable the computer perform a given task.
