Warehouse management system is an application that monitors the progress of products through the Warehouse. It involves the physical Warehouse infrastructure, tracking systems, and communication between product stations. The aim of the study is to design and implement a Computerized Warehouse Management System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will facilitate instant processing of billing papers for clearance of goods and ensure the timely delivery of goods.
The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that the processing of billing papers for clearance of goods, with manual method has led to omission of many records that ought to be included. This is caused by inaccuracy of the manual billing process. Also, due to the inefficiency in manual billing process, billing papers are carried from post to post, waiting for who is in charge, thereby delaying the goods that suppose to be delivered. Other motivation issues are outline at the statement of problems section.
The methodology adopted in this study is the object oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application.
The software, when developed will facilitate and enhance the more and methods of warehousing information system which enables accuracy and also saves time when services and rendered. The implementation of the proposed system will also help direct and optimize stock putaway based on real-time information about the status of bin utilization. The expected result is a Computerized Warehouse Management System that will control the movement and storage of materials within a Warehouse and process the associated transactions, including shipping, receiving, putaway and picking.
