    ABSTRACT

    Distributed Databases Systems are a set of logically networked computer databases, managed by different sites and appearing to the user as a single database. The aim of the study is to design and implement a Distributed Database System for National Electoral Commission to Check Double Registration and Voting during Election. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will provide a user friendly interface for the administrator and electorate to easily cast their votes and automatically check-mate and detect double voting and registration during election.

    The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that, there is double registration of people, double voting during election and poor security of the stored data in the database. The methodology adopted in this study is the object oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application.

    The significance of this study will help in economic cost reduction in running a particular application. It will also increase performance and support by updating the fact that all your software and applications automatically. The expected result is an electronic billing system that will process customer’s selected items in a shopping mall or supermarket, and the system will provide a user friendly interface for the administrator and electorate to easily cast their votes and automatically check-mate and detect double voting and registration during election.

    CHAPTER ONE

    1.1 Introduction

    Distributed Databases Systems are a set of logically networked computer databases, managed by different sites and appearing to the user as a single database. A database is an organized collection of data. It is the collection of schemas, tables, queries, reports, views, and other objects. The data are typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such as modeling the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies. A database management system (DBMS) is a computer software application that interacts with the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general-purpose DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of databases. Designing a Distributed Database, it is necessary that it be entirely resident on various sites in a computer network or its portion. In this logic, there must be at least two sites hosting the database, and not necessarily each one, in the Computer Network (Tomar, 2014).

    As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
