    ABSTRACT

    Computerized Accounting System for Medical Services is an electronic-based system that provides comprehensive solution to the unique financial management needs of healthcare organizations. The aim of the study is to Design and Implement a Computerized Accounting System for Medical Services. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to identify the specific requirements and challenges faced by healthcare providers in managing financial operations within the context of medical services, and measure the impact of the Computerized Accounting System on financial management practices within the healthcare organization. The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that the traditional accounting methods often lack the analytical capabilities required to provide meaningful insights into financial performance and trends. Healthcare executives and decision-makers struggle to access timely and accurate financial data for strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting purposes.

    The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The financial accounting information system is one that is well designed to facilitate the smooth, efficient and uninterrupted flow of data from the point where a transaction occurs through the various stages of data processing to the final stage, thereby culminating in a report. The implementation of the proposed syste will provide real-time access to financial data and analytics. Also, the system will facilitate better budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation, leading to improved financial performance and sustainability. The expected result is a Computerized Accounting System for Medical Services will process patient’s medical bills, and the system will generates accurate day-to-day account information for managerial decision making purpose.

    According to research by Chaudhury and Saha (2020), the adoption of computerized accounting systems in healthcare has been shown to improve accuracy, efficiency, and transparency in financial management processes. These systems offer features tailored to the specific needs of healthcare providers, such as integration with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, automated billing functionalities, and compliance controls. Furthermore, the implementation of CAS in medical services has been driven by regulatory requirements and industry standards aimed at enhancing financial accountability and transparency.     The aim of the study is to Design and Implement a Computerized Accounting System for Medical Services. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will:

    The study focuses on the Design and Implementation of a Computerized Accounting System for Medical Services. This study covers the relevance of proposed system for business growth in organization using Federal Medical Centre, Owerri as a case study.


    1.7 Limitations of the Study

    During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

    1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
    2. Research Material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
    3. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

    It is the collection, storage and processing of financial and accounting data that is used by decision makers.
