ABSTRACT

Online e-Book maker is a web application which is an effective way to produce rich multimedia e-books. The aim of the study is to design and implement an Online Electronic Book (eBook) Maker System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will provide an online eBook maker facility for author, convert eBook to PDF format online and detect damaged eBook and publish undamaged eBook in website.

The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that e-books are frequently locked into a particular format and/or device, making it difficult for readers to access some books in some environments. It is still very difficult to obtain reliable empirical data on business models in the area of e-publishing and e-books.

The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The study will provide multimedia data, to link to other electronic resources, and to cross reference information across multiple resources. This research work will also be of immense benefit to Book Authors, Publishers and other researchers. The expected result is an Online Electronic Book (eBook) Maker System that will provide an online eBook maker facility for author and convert eBook to PDF format online.

An eBook is based both on emulating the basic characteristics of traditional books in an electronic format, as well as leveraging internet technology to make an eBook easy and efficient to use. An eBook can take the form of a single monograph or/a multi-volume set of books in a digital format that allows for viewing on various types of monitors, devices, and personal computers. It should allow searching for specific information across a collection of books and within a book.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
