ABSTRACT

High blood pressure occurs when one’s blood move through the arteries at a higher speed than normal. It is also known that for now there is no cure for high blood pressure. The research work is aimed at investigating whether there is a relationship between weight and blood pressure of patients with high blood pressure. In achieving this aim, the specific objectives were set out to examine the effect of blood pressure on hypertensive patient’s weight, estimate the regression model between the variables based on the sample collected, test the significance of the coefficient of regression, and determine the extent and direction of the relationship between the variables; weight and blood pressure. Investigation reveals the problems of the effect of weight on blood pressure on hypertensive patients: a lot of people have died as a result of weight on blood pressure on hypertensive patients, and high blood pressure can cause hardening and thickening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), which can lead to a heart attack, stroke or other complications. This project work will help individuals to predict their blood pressure given their weight and will equally help them to know what to do when their weight is becoming too much.

1.1 Introduction

In this section, The effect of weight on blood pressure on hypertensive patients is discussed, with relevant and recent citations. As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the aim and objectives of the study. Others are significance of the study, scope of work, research hypothesis and questions, limitation of the study and definition of terms.
