ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to examine The Importance of Theological Education for Successful Christian Ministry using Baptist Pastors of South-East Baptist Association as a case study. Investigation revealed that the future of Christian’s faith relies and depends on the quality of Christians’ leaders produced today. Youth that are to take responsibility of the church of tomorrow seems to be distracted and disengaged from learning more about the basis of Christian faith. The quality of Christian teachings declines every day and both youth and Christian educators are not making much effort to redress the issues. The research design used in this report is descriptive design, utilizing questionnaire method to obtain information from the respondents for this project. Primary data were collected from the primary source which questionnaire was used as an instrument of data collection while secondary data were sources from textbooks, journals, newspapers and the internet were employed. The data were presented on a frequency distribution table and analyzed using simple percentage.

The result of the findings will be of immense benefit to the Ministry of Education in designing pre service and in-service courses for student teachers and teachers of Christian religious studies. Schools teaching Christian religious studies may also use the findings in the attempts to make secondary agricultural education more relevant and effective for Christian religious studies student teacher during their teaching practice. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Theological education programme should be judged by the extent it is likely to produce ministers determined to mould their own future and force it to their liking, or to produce people open to where God may lead them, in whatever experiences and within whatever changing contexts they are placed. Also, the ultimate goal of theology should be the shaping of lives and practice of believers and the church.

1.1 Introduction

Theological Education is dedicated to helping people discover God’s meaning for life. It goes without saying that Christian education must be founded on Biblical principles if it is to be genuinely Christian. In the first place, it is how Christians through their study of the Bible get to know God and understand His plan for their lives. Secondly it is how Christianity is passed on from generation to the next. As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitation of the study and Definition of technical terms.
