1.1 Introduction

Data validation can be defined through declarative, data integrity rules or procedural based rules. Data that does not conform to these rules will negatively affect business process execution. It is also referred to the activity where one decides whether or not a particular data set is fit for a given purpose. Data validation involves the process of ensuring that a program that is developed operates on a clean, correct and useful data. The validation of this data is applied to a relational database (Arkady, 2007). Formalizing the requirements that drive this decision process allows for unambiguous communication of the requirements, automation of the decision process, and opens up ways to maintain and investigate the decision process itself. In most of the business application, data validation can be defined through declarative, data integrity rules or procedural based rules.
