Admission Requirements for English Language When Accredited in University of Benin (UNIBEN)


O’Level Requirements


To study this course, candidates aspiring to gain admission into English Language department under Faculty of Arts and Humanities, should at least obtain five (5) credit (C5 and above) passes in their SSCE subjects including:


  • English Language,


  • Literature in English, and


  • any other three (3) Arts/Social Science subjects.


JAMB Subject Combination


  • Use of English,


  • Literature in English,


  • one other Arts subject, and


  • another Arts or Social Science subject.


UNIBEN Cut-Off Mark for English Language


The general UTME cut-off mark is 180, but due to the variation of English Language cut-off mark depending on the admission year and competition level, we suggest you enquire about the recent JAMB UTME cut-off mark from UNIBEN Officials. However, to improve your admission chances:


  • Aim for 180+ score.


  • Perform well in Post-UTME screening.

1. Linguistics and African Languages


To study this course, the minimum requirement for applicants seeking admission to the Linguistics and African Languages department, is five (5) credits (C5 and higher) in their SSCE subjects, including the following:


  • English Language,


  • Igbo and


  • any other Arts subject.



2. Mass Communication (MC)


To study this course, candidates aspiring to gain admission into Mass Communication (MC) department, should at least obtain five (5) credit (C5 and above) passes in their SSCE subjects including:


  • English Language, and


  • any four (4) other subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.

To study this course, candidates seeking admission into the Education and English Language Literature department, must have at least five (5) credits (C5 and more) in their SSCE disciplines, including the following:
