ABSTRACT

SIM Card Registration System is a system which is used by the user for the purpose of managing and saving different SIM Card holders of different service providers. The aim of the study is to design and implement an Online MTN SIM Registration System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will help in tracking down every criminal calls made by the subscribers (customer) and collect customer’s information for all MTN Nigeria subscribers. The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that the existing SIM card registration process is tedious and it leads to time wastage. The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. This research work is significant the MTN communication Telecommunication as it will aid easy SIM registration and revalidation. Also, this research work will serve as a reference material to the fellow researcher, academic students and others as a reference study guide. The expected result is an Online MTN SIM Registration System that will process customer’s selected MTN SIM card and register the details of all new customers on the network in compliance with NCC requirements.

Design and Implementation of an Online MTN SIM Registration System

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

SIM Card Registration System is a system which is used by the user for the purpose of managing and saving different SIM Card holders of different service providers. This project provides very sincere way of keeping total details of any Card holders of any service providers and their details. Detailed .net programming with web application has been used to design this project. The aim or objective of this project is to handle the all the data of card holders as like their address, phone no., pin code, SIM serial no., SIM card number, E-mail address etc. by which service provider can easily handle their customers. The MTNN SIM card registration process has been targeted at all new existing customers on the MTNN Network both prepaid and post paid, mostly by making sure that unlawful act towards in the use of telephone will be monitored.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitation of the study and Definition of technical terms.

1.2 Background of Study

MTN Nigeria operates under a subsidiary called MTN International (Mauritius) Limited which in turn manages under the larger umbrella of the MTN Group. As earlier mentioned, MTN refers to mobile telephone network (Wikipedia, 2016). The group was launched in South Africa in 1994 to function as a mobile operator. The headquarters is located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Besides Nigeria, MTN has its presence felt in some African countries and the Middle East bloc. It functions in places such as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea Republic, Afghanistan, Cyprus and Syria. Significantly, MTN (2016) advocates that the firm is already an advanced communications network which is African oriented. In that respect, it connects globally to more than 203.8 million subscribers in not less than 22 countries.

In line with directives from the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) and as part of efforts to have a credible database and as through Sim card Subscribers in Nigeria, MTNN, will be laughing the MTNN Sim Card Registration. The MTNN Sim Card Registration process is amid at capturing detailed information of all MTNN Nigeria Subscribers. This became a necessity as a result of the increasing frequency with which mobile phones are being used in criminal activities in the country. This is expected to serves as the primary source of indentify verification of all MTNN customers. The SIM Card registration will enable MTNN link every sim card to the identity of the actual owner details to be captured during the SIM Card.

Registration process is:

  1. Subscriber name
  2. Address
  3. Alternate phone number
  4. Pass port- sized photograph
  5. Left and right thumb print
  6. Left and right index finger print
  7. Personal unlocking key

In addition to the information above, the registration process will include the customer that want to register an MTNN Sim card appearing in a person to enable actual capturing of the photograph and biometric (finger print). Registration points will be deployed nationwide levering on designated MTNN Sim registration points nationwide e.g. MTNN walk − in centers, connect stores designated post offices, trade partners nationwide est. Nigeria authorities are fighting against telecommunication crimes, then telecommunication industries like the MTNN, AIRTEL,GLOBACOM, ETISALAT and other communication industries , are required to registered the details information of their customer’s.

1.3 Statement of Problem

Investigation revealed that the SIM card registration process which is done nationwide on within the country has been so tedious, subscribers goes to the registration points and line up in an unending line waiting for the time it will be his turn, some don’t get the opportunity of doing that same day and will have to return the following day to join the queue again. This has been an issue as some of this subscribes are business men that closed their shops because they want to re-validate their SIM due to the facts that some of the subscribers are disconnection already from the network.

1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of the study is to design and implement an Online MTN SIM Registration System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will:

  1. Registered the details of all new customers on the network in compliance with NCC requirements;
  2. Collect customer’s information for all MTN Nigeria subscribers; and
  3. Help in tracking down every criminal calls made by the subscribers (customer).

1.5 Significance of Study

The study gave birth to a new strategic method of dealing the registration. This research work is significant the MTN communication Telecommunication as it will aid easy SIM registration and revalidation. Also, this research work will serve as a reference material to the fellow researcher, academic students and others as a reference study guide.

1.6 Scope of Study

The scope of the research is focused on the Design and Implementation of an Online MTN SIM Registration System. This research looks into the processes if registration SIM cards basically by web, as a means of validating users data to the SIM. Also this research work is for MTN Nigeria telecommunication network.

1.7 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Establishment Policies: Establishment policies posed a serious limitation as most staffs are not ready to release information needed for this research work. There were lots of information needed from the staffs of this institution to enhance the study which took them time to release or they did not release at all for security purposes, hence the scope was reduced.
  3. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  4. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  5. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

1.8 Definition of Terms

Registration: This means to keep records received from the management for reference purposes.

SIM: Subscriber identity module (SIM) card is a smart card inserted into a cell phone that holds card inserted with personal information relating to the subscribers personal identity number or stored phone numbers.

Subscriber: Is a customer or a person, company who purchases goods and services from another person organization.
