O’Level Requirements


To study this course, the minimum requirement for applicants seeking admission to the English Language department under Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is five (5) credits (C5 and higher) in their SSCE subjects, including the following:

  • Literature in English, and


  • any other three (3) Arts/Social Science subjects.


JAMB Subject Combination

  • Literature in English,


  • one other Arts subject, and


  • another Arts or Social Science subject.


ESUT Cut-Off Mark for English Language


The general UTME cut-off mark is 180, but due to the variation of English Language cut-off mark depending on the admission year and competition level, we suggest you enquire about the recent JAMB UTME cut-off mark from ESUT Officials. However, to improve your admission chances:


  • Aim for 180+ score.


  • Perform well in Post-UTME screening.


Other ESUT Arts Courses with their Requirements


1. Law


To study this course, candidates aspiring to gain admission into Law department, should at least obtain five (5) credit (C5 and above) passes in their SSCE subjects including:


  • English Language,


  • Literature in English,


  • Mathematics and


  • any two (2) other relevant subjects.



2. Educational Technology


To study this course, candidates seeking admission into the Educational Technology department, must have at least five (5) credits (C5 and more) in their SSCE disciplines, including the following:


  • English Language,


  • Physics / Mathematics and


  • any three (3) other relevant subjects.



3. English and Literary Studies


To study this course, a minimum of five (5) credit passes (C5 and higher) in their SSCE subjects, including the following, are required for applicants to the English and Literary Studies department.

To study this course, candidates seeking admission into the Mass Communication (MC) department, must have at least five (5) credits (C5 and more) in their SSCE disciplines, including the following:
