ABSTRACT

Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System is an application that helps in store visual information for a longer period of time. The aim of the study is to design and implement an Online Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will create authentication system for all users to access kindergarten visual information and provide full range of reports and records that will satisfy informational requirements.

The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that the existing Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System is facing so far is manually data entry. The existing process in the area under study urgently needs a full software that can handle the entire complex manually data entry such as registration of the new student, fee payments, retrieving updating the reports and records of the student and all the other required information.

The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The proposed system will help kindergarten to increase the efficiency of the management by saving time as compare to current manual system. It will also prevent a data loss by having a backup. The expected result is an Online Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System that will keep track all the financial income and expenditures at kindergarten, generate periodical reports and execute a weekly backup.

Design and Implementation of Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System is an application that helps in store visual information for a longer period of time. Recent development in the role of kindergarten in children's progress includes the use of Information and Communication Technologies (Drigas et al., 2014). The term IT refers to digital media or tools, including computers, tablets, multi-touch screens, Internet, digital cameras, audio recorders, and e-book readers (Saxena et al., 2016). Precisely, ICT use in education can create new educational environments, provide new teaching methods, change the traditional teacher-student relationship and finally improve the quality of education (Tezci, 2009). Additionally, the use ICT at school is an effective way to develop individuals who are proficient in ICT meeting the demands of modern information society (Tondeur et al., 2018). The findings of the study indicated that, although student teachers acknowledge the role of ICT in kindergarten children's development, most of them do not use ICT in their teaching practices (Ihmeideh, 2011).

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.

1.2 Background of Study

Many countries around the world have recognized the importance of early childhood education. As facilitators of learning, preschool teachers are expected to plan and provide for their children's learning by using a variety of resources, including information communication technology (ICT) (Drigas et al., 2014). Based on the 2013 Curriculum, there are 3 kinds of kindergarten assessments, namely anecdotes, checklists and works. Assessment emphasizes the potential of students by monitoring learning from progress, results to continuous learning improvements that are carried out when children are playing, interacting with friends or teachers, when children communicate their thoughts through their work and assessments like this are done every day. The important thing that needs to be understood is that the results of the work are not to be judged good or not, but to analyze the progress of the development of tired children.

Developmental assessment in early childhood education is not a simple matter because there are many factors that need to be considered when gathering facts, analyzing children's behavior while playing, and analyzing work. of course, this is in accordance with the principle of the 2013 Curriculum, which emphasizes that educators are required to make detailed and thorough assessments of each of their students. Constraints that occur by kindergarten teachers are difficulties in processing the evaluation of children's development learning every day in accordance with the 2013 curriculum so that it takes a long time to process it.

The proposed Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System is necessary to facilitate educators in recording assessments based on the 2013 curriculum by minimizing the work of educators who have difficulty processing learning evaluations because recording must be done repeatedly in learning evaluation books as many as the number of students. This system is expected to make it easier for users to find and compile evaluations of learning to be carried out. Learning evaluation data processing will be used as material for consideration whether learning evaluation is in accordance with planned activities.

1.3 Statement of Problem

Investigation revealed that the one and only main problem that the existing Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System is facing so far is manually data entry. The existing process in the area under study urgently needs a full software that can handle the entire complex manually data entry such as registration of the new student, fee payments, retrieving updating the reports and records of the student and all the other required information.

1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of the study is to design and implement an Online Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to develop an application software that will:

  1. Create authentication system for all users to access kindergarten visual information;
  2. Provide full range of reports and records that will satisfy informational requirements;
  3. Keep track all the financial income and expenditures at kindergarten;
  4. Generate periodical reports and execute a weekly backup; and
  5. Register and manage the records and all necessary information of each and every child on the kindergarten.

1.5 Significance of Study

The following are the significance of the study which is stated as follows:

  1. The proposed system will help kindergarten to increase the efficiency of the management by saving time as compare to current manual system.
  2. It will prevent a data loss by having a backup.
  3. It will reduce the workload based on manual operation.

The system will also help to reduce a cost issues because now kindergarten uses a books to register and that will surly takes a lot of cost to register including purchasing a new materials such as books pens and any other related things.

1.6 Scope of Study

The scope of the research is focused on the Design and Implementation of Kindergarten Visual Educational Information System.

1.7 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Establishment Policies: Establishment policies posed a serious limitation as most staffs are not ready to release information needed for this project work. There were lots of information needed from the staffs of this institution to enhance the study which took them time to release or they did not release at all for security purposes, hence the scope was reduced.
  3. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  4. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  5. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

1.8 Definition of Terms

Registration: This means to keep records received from the management for reference purposes.

Management: It is the co-ordination of all the resources of an Organization through the process of planning, Organization, directing and controlling
