CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

An Intelligent Software Agent is software that can migrate from one node to another in a computer network performing actions on behalf of the user. It can create reports about activities of software and can as well collect data. A Mobile Software Agent is a software program along with data, which is able to migrate from one computer to another autonomously and continue its execution on the destination computer. Here, software is partitioned into objects called mobile agents and the privileges to access these agents are separated and distributed to the user’s local system and a number of trusted servers called trusted computational proxies. The execution of a program (software) is conducted by cooperation of the agents and the proxies that contain them. Two agents are dependent if there is message passing between them and distributing dependent agent to different proxies helps reduce risk of software attack, because in case of an agent being compromised, minimal information of the software will only be disclosed (Shieh, 2003).

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Research hypothesis and questions, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
