The study entails the structural analysis of the noun phrase, structure of the Itsekiri language. This study shall present data and thorough analysis would be executed to support findings about the Itsekiri noun phrase. The aim of the study is to examine the Structural Analysis of the Itsekiri Noun Phrase. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to identify and analyse the syntactic structure of the noun phrase of Itsekiri language with the aid of X-bar theory, serve as a useful material or document for students of linguistics interested in the research and study of the Itsekiri noun phrase, serve as a guide to the Itsekiri’s who find it difficult to speak the language and are interested to learn, and contribute to Itsekiri literacy and knowledge. This study is of essence because it analyses the structure of the Itsekiri noun phrase using x-bar theory. This research hopes to clear any form of confusion or assumption in the minds of individuals naïve of the linguistic syntactic structure of the Itsekiri noun phrase. It is the belief of this researcher that this study will help solve language difficulty experienced amongst learners and users of the Itsekiri noun phrase.

This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.

1.6 Scope of Study

The study focuses on the Structural Analysis of the Itsekiri Noun Phrase using X-bar theory.

1.7 Limitations of the Study

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  3. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.

1.8 Methodology

In this research, primary and secondary methods of data collection were both employed. These primary data were gotten from bilingual informants who speak Itsekiri and another language.
