Admission Requirements for English Language When Accredited in University of Ibadan (UI)


O’Level Requirements


To study this course, candidates seeking admission into the English Language department under Faculty of Arts and Humanities, must have at least five (5) credits (C5 and more) in their SSCE disciplines, including the following:


  • English Language,


  • Literature in English, and


  • any other three (3) Arts/Social Science subjects.


JAMB Subject Combination


  • Use of English,


  • Literature in English,


  • one other Arts subject, and


  • another Arts or Social Science subject.


UI Cut-Off Mark for English Language


The general UTME cut-off mark is 180, but due to the variation of English Language cut-off mark depending on the admission year and competition level, we suggest you enquire about the recent JAMB UTME cut-off mark from UI Officials. However, to improve your admission chances:


  • Aim for 180+ score.


  • Perform well in Post-UTME screening.


Other UI Arts Courses with their Requirements


1. Linguistics


To study this course, a minimum of five (5) credit passes (C5 and higher) in their SSCE subjects, including the following, are required for applicants to the Linguistics department.


  • English Language, and


  • any four (4) relevant subjects.



2. Law


To study this course, a minimum of five (5) credit passes (C5 and higher) in their SSCE subjects, including the following, are required for applicants to the Law department.
