ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this study is to know the impact of strategic human resource management on organizational success. Every organization no matter the nature and activities being under taken by it will not exist this time, the factors of production like material, money and machine will be meaningless if there are no human beings to harness them. Availability of manpower is not just the issue but its effective and efficient manpower on the organization enhance the need for personnel management.

Therefore, this= study has tried to unfold the basic functions of human resources management and its impact and effectiveness of organizational success. With reference to Impact of Strategic Human Resources Management on Organizational Success, the impact of effectiveness, extent had quality of personnel management has been carried out at paper mill limited.

In view of this, the researcher has conducted a very detailed survey on this subject such as questionnaire, oral interview and closely took at the view of other scholars was also an immense help and analyzed using tables of the study, recommendation and conclusion were made, that good human resource management motivate employee to bring out their best in terms of production. And organizations must treat all human with great caution as such matter effects all other activities selection of the organization.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 Introduction

Personal management is that aspect of management that is concerns all aspect of managing the human resources of an organization. Personnel management involve the management of personnel at work irrespective of the type of organization is question its products, size, age or structure philosophy, its management must procure resources for it to achieve its stated objective.

For Akanwa (2007)personnel management is seen more as a clerical function with the responsibility of screening applications, keeping records, processing payrolls and finding people when needed. Today, the job of the human resources management practitioner has enlarged and taken on entirely new role. HRM is responsible for dealing with all aspect of the most critical resource “PEOPLE”.

More especially, it has observed that some strategic applied in hum resources management in an organization have caused a lot of problem in the relationship between the workers and the management. Some organizations complain of the awkward behavior of their workers that makes them feel uncomfortable in the organization.

The management of human resources is very important and should not be neglected. This study therefore was to identify the impact of strategic human resource management on organizational success to ensure that good working relation exist between the workers, the management and the public and also how this strategic in human resources management contribute to the achievement of the organizational goals.

1.1 Background of the study

Agbonifoh (1999) had stated that strategy includes a hierarchical system of basic objectives, fulfilling objectives and policies as well as strategic and an action plan which in itself means preparedness to commit resources.

Good strategic should incorporate a sound knowledge of the various environmental factors the impact on the business of the organization. An effective organization will therefore operate at the intersection of the three strategy elements of objectives, resources and opportunities.

Any change or anticipated change in any of these elements may be regarded as signed for change in strategy especially if there are changes in opportunities and threats.

Human resource management is concerned with matching human resource to the operational and strategic needs of organization. It involved not only in getting and keeping the number and quality of staff required but also the selection of performance people come into organization with their various skill, competencies, knowledge, experience, personality and aspirations. These people, who must have been recruited and selected by organizations are subsequently oriented, trained, developed, evaluate and compensated for their efforts and performance. Their safety and health are cared for to ensure that they work efficiently in a safe and health conditions until their retirement.

Human resource management basically, is a process of recruiting, selection, orienting, training, developing, evaluating and compensating workers for the achievement of organizational goal in a safe and healthy state and helping them to retire efficiently and effectively from the organization.

Akanwa and Aham (1987) defined human resource management as planning, organizing, directing and controlling the procurement, development, compensation, integration and maintenance of people for the purpose of contributing to organizational goals.

Every organization operates in an environment they survive by interacting effectively with it. Legge Karen (2004) defined human resources management as the process through which on optional fit is achieved among the employees, job organizations, and the environment so that employees reach their desired level of satisfactions and performance and the organization meets business enterprise is to take appropriate decision that influence the operators to perform tastes and very important before you can influence them to perform organization tasks, you need to understand them. This is why there is the need to study the impact of human resource management on organizational success.


1.2 Statement of the problem

It has been observed that some strategies applied in human resources management in an organization have caused a lot of problems in the relationship between the workers and the management.

some organizations complain of the awkward behavior of their workers that make them feel uncomfortable in the organization. The management of human resources is very important and should not be neglected.

This was dramatized by Harothrone (1987) which made an approach that workers were not machines and thus should be recognized by the organization.

The researcher have also observed that in organizations human resources are not well handled promptly and efficiently by the organization.

This study therefore was to identify the impact of strategic human resource management or organizational success to ensure that good working relation exist between the workers, the management and the public and also how this strategic in human resources. Management contributes to the achievement of the organization goal.


1.3 Objective of the study

The major objective of this study was to identify the impact of strategic human resource management on organization success specially the study sought.

  1. To identify how man power planning contributes to the achievement of the organization success.
  2. To identify how recruitment, selection and placement contribute to the achievement of the organizational success.
  3. To identify how training and development contributes to the achievement of the organizational success.
  4. To identify the extent motivation contributes to the achievement of organization goals.

1.5 Significance of the study

The outcome of this study will be beneficial to the managers and executive at all levels to develop good strategy within their own organizations developments, public and private sector, so as to achieve the organizational goals. It is also aimed at offering the employers and employees the opportunity to know the strategic in achieving the organizational goal and objectives.


1.6 Scope of the study

The scope of the study was to look into the impact of strategic human resource management on organizational success with emphasis on the Onuimo in Imo State.
