1.1 Introduction

1.2 Background of Study
Online book ordering traces back to the early days of e-commerce in the 1990s when the internet first began to revolutionize the way consumers interacted with retailers. Amazon, established in 1994, became one of the first platforms to offer online book purchasing, setting the standard for digital retail and marking a significant shift in consumer behavior (Johnson, 2018). The success of Amazon demonstrated the viability of online book retail, encouraging traditional bookstores to explore digital solutions and reconsider how books could be marketed and sold on a global scale.
As technology advanced, so did the sophistication of online ordering systems, moving from simple catalog browsing to more interactive platforms with enhanced search functions and user recommendations. According to Smith and Chen (2020), the evolution of search algorithms and recommendation engines in the early 2000s transformed online bookstores, making it easier for users to discover and order books that matched their preferences. However, one challenge remained: how to bridge the convenience of online shopping with the localized, personalized experience of visiting a physical bookstore.

1.3 Statement of Problem
Investigation revealed that users often face limited flexibility in delivery options on current e-commerce platforms, leading to higher delivery costs and longer wait times. Additionally, smaller bookstores are often disadvantaged in competing with larger online retailers due to limited visibility in the digital marketplace. The integration of a location finder in an online ordering system is helping local stores enhance their online presence and connect with nearby customers, thus promoting local business and offering a viable alternative to large e-commerce giants (Chen & Liu, 2019).
Furthermore, the absence of real-time inventory updates in many current systems is contributing to customer dissatisfaction, as users may encounter books listed as available but are actually out of stock (Wilson & Scott, 2022). A real-time system that integrates location data with inventory availability is addressing this issue by offering accurate and immediate information on book availability, thus enhancing user satisfaction and reducing the likelihood of unsuccessful orders.
1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of the study is to design and implement an online book ordering system with location finder. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows:
- To integrate a location-based service within the system to help users identify nearby bookstores with available stock of specific books.
- To support local bookstores by increasing their digital presence and helping them connect with nearby customers in need of their products.
- To provide real-time inventory updates to enhance user satisfaction by ensuring accurate information on book availability.

The scope of the research is focused on the design and implementation of an online book ordering system with location finder.

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:
- Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
- Dependency on Real-Time Inventory Updates: Smaller bookstores with limited digital infrastructure may have faced difficulties in providing accurate, up-to-date stock information, which was essential for enhancing user satisfaction.
- Financial Constraint: The study was limited by the potential for increased operational costs for local bookstores that choose to participate, as integrating with the online system and maintaining accurate inventory records may have required additional resources.
