ABSTRACT

This research work investigates the Problems and Prospects of Female Gospel Musician and Their bands in Nigeria using Sola Allyson as a case study. The music of Sola Allyson Obaniyi is reflective of the cultural and social realities that obtain in the Yoruba society. Her lyric, Marose, from her album, Adun, addresses the importance and significance of the ethics of work. Female gospel musician and their and their instrumentalists can encounter serious performing problems because of their physiology that is not regarded as being significant in medical terms, instrumental biography and, above all, player observation. Three case studies from a medical information center for professional and lay musicians show the importance of gender-specific problems in female musicians (NIH, 2021): a pianist with "pseudo short-arm syndrome" due to circumference of the abdomen as a result of pregnancy, violinist with pain in the shoulder girdle due to heavy mammae, and a young oboist with "pseudo breathing- problems" during menstruation. The Female Gospel musician has to make the major adjustment, compromise and realization of supreme importance for marital adjustment. Despite of her level of education, occupational prestige, position and economic status, her wife and mother’s role is prime and essential.

According to Wikipedia (2021), the first published use of the term "Gospel song" probably appeared in 1874 when Philip Bliss released a songbook entitled Gospel Songs. Moody, whose musician was Ira D. Sankey, as well as the Holiness-Pentecostal movement.
