ABSTRACT

Computer image is the acquisition, processing and display of using computers. The aim of the study is to Design and implement A Computerized Image Transfer System in a Wide Area Network. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to develop an application software that will Enable users to easily host, store and backup image data, with high-performance computing easy to retrieve and make image file available to the end-user at any point in time. The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that many business firms have not seen it as necessary to embark on internet services. It is usually difficult to transfer images from one place to the other, most especially on digital form, this at time leads to improper identification of images or the images being brought to the user views because of this problem associated to image transfer some important facts that needed to be transferred are not properly decodes by the recipient. The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. The proposed system is designed to provide a means to transmit files (data / image) from one system to another system or a group of systems connected to a hub or connected via an Ethernet straight-through cable. It also provides a cost-effective, secured, safe, faster means to transfer files from one device to another device. The expected result is A Computerized Image Transfer System in a Wide Area Network that will to guaranty safety of information and ensure image files accessibility without any limiting factor, example device compatibilities.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Computer image is the acquisition, processing and display of using computers. Computer imaging can be applied in different ways like technical image processing, medical imaging, remote sensing graphic art, desktop publishing, document imaging, digital photography industrial inspection and video process and consumer application. The imaging technology, image processing modules is designed for image analysis and machine vision application such as industrial inspection and optical character recognition. The hope of thousand of application developers and commercial software suppliers is to be able to write and compile code once and run it or any of target hardware platforms.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.


1.2 Background of Study

The widespread use of cloud storage in the last few years can be attributed to the existence of appealing applications such as file backup, data archival and file sharing. Image file sharing in particular, is implemented in different ways by distinct cloud storage services. With more people accessing their files online, an important part of file sharing today is done by taking advantage of cloud storage. This can be done through personal file synchronization services which store users’ data in the cloud. Computer network is a collection of devices that can store and manipulate electronic data, interconnected in such a way that their users can store, retrieve and share information with each other. The connected devices may be mainframe computers, microcomputers, terminals, printers, various data storage devices and a host of other equipment. Therefore, the main objective of network system is geared towards sharing resources.

In the past, security was simply a matter of locking the door or storing files in a locked filing cabinet or safe. Today, paper is no longer the only medium of choice for housing information. Files are stored in computer databases as well as file cabinets. Hard drives and floppy disks hold many of our secret information. For further protection against intruders breaking through the locks, you might have security alarms. In the digital world, security works in a similar way. One concept is privacy, meaning that no one can break into files to read your sensitive data (such as medical records) or steal money (by, for example, obtaining credit card numbers or online brokerage accounts information). Privacy is the lock on the door. Another concept, data integrity, refers to a mechanism that tells us when something has been altered.

A lot of synergistic things have happened in the internet and enterprises in the past few, more than merely a series of software products and extents has shown how fast the Java technology has grown. The technology is a major computing environment now, “a river that has flood his bank” and is now crossing just about everywhere across industries and enterprise. Coupled with the power of networking, the visual platform is helping computer users to do many things that are unimaginable. For example user can securely access their personal information and application when they are far away from office by using any computer that is connected to be application from a mobile phone based on the visual platform.

The technology will soon be integrated into many aspects of life; incentive internet services will be available not only on personal computers but also on appliances throughout the household and on the road. Think home banking, internet, shopping, international games, access to business system, away from bark even personnel ATM that let s one download funds into smart cards via the phone.


1.3 Statement of Problems

Investigation revealed that many business firms have not seen it as necessary to embark on internet services. There should be the pressing need to let business use the internet to secretly connect to their customer's supplier and partners. The problem of transferring images files to the web has been with us for almost asked loving as the web itself. It is usually difficult to transfer images from one place to the other, most especially on digital form, this at time leads to improper identification of images or the images being brought to the user views because of this problem associated to image transfer some important facts that needed to be transferred are not properly decodes by the recipient.


1.4 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of the study is to Design and implement a Computerized Image Transfer System in a Wide Area Network. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to develop an application software that will:

  1. Enable users to easily host, store and backup image data, with high-performance computing easy to retrieve;
  2. Ensure image files accessibility without any limiting factor, example device compatibilities; and
  3. Make image file available to the end-user at any point in time.

1.5 Significance of Study

The proposed system is designed to provide a means to transmit files (data / image) from one system to another system or a group of systems connected to a hub or connected via an Ethernet straight-through cable. It also provides a cost-effective, secured, safe, faster means to transfer files from one device to another device. It is also a secured and effective way of transferring the results of students in the department to the office of the dean. It is an improved means for proper administration of students in the department, to eradicate the issues associated with missing results in the department, and also saves cost because we would not have need to get a server.

This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.


1.6 Scope of Study

The scope of this research is focused on the Design and Implementation of a Computerized Image Transfer System in a Wide Area Network.


1.7 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  3. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  4. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

1.8 Definition of Terms

Databases: A systematically arranged collection of computer data, structured so that it can be automatically retrieved or manipulated. It is also called a databank.

Information Security: means protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, perusal, inspection, recording, or destruction.

Internet: A global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
