ABSTRACT

Brake failure indicator circuit is a circuit that constantly monitors the condition of brake. The study was conducted to design and construct an Automatic Automobile Brake Failure Indicator with Buzzer. Investigation revealed that accidents are occurring due to lot of reasons, the one of the main reason is brake failure, it caused to due to poor maintenance, improper use and product defect, in order to safe guard the valuable human for accident the accident monitoring of brake is very important issue in automobile. To meet the need of exploding population economic and effective control of machines is necessary. The brake pressure transducer of an automobile is placed on the brake kit assembly. The sensor is connected to the controlling unit, the output of the controlling unit is connected with the alarm and IVRS, when a pressure of the brake reduced from specified level alarm will gives a danger signal and control system will immediately stop the engine in gear so vehicle will safe from the accident. The result of the findings will be significant in providing a smooth ride for the motorist and when the brake is applied in order to slow down or to stop the vehicle the green LED blinks and the buzzer beeps for about one second if the brake system is accurate and working properly. If brake system fails the red LED glows and the buzzer do not beep when the brakes are applied. Based on the findings, the research recommended that the brake system should be inspected with each oil change or at minimum every 6 months or about every 6,000 miles.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Brake failure indicator circuit is a circuit that constantly monitors the condition of brake. The sensor which is attached to the circuit get the chance of a brake failure by monitoring the brake switch and reminds an individual of the condition of brake every time when the brake is applied. Most vehicles retain some degree of control over the brakes even if the main system doesn’t work and most vehicles have two braking systems. Today, Machines are widely controlled by automated control system. To meet the need of growing population economic, effective and reliable control of machines as well as their control system is necessary. One acting as backup system even though brake failure is relatively rare along with tire blowouts, brake failure is actually one of the top causes of accidents involving trucks and larger vehicles. The most common cause is that there is a leak in the brake line, master cylinders or wheel cylinders.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitation of the study and Definition of terms.


1.2 Background of Study

Over the years, machines are now commonly operated by automated control systems. To fulfill the needs of a rising population, inexpensive, effective, and dependable control of machines and their control systems is required. A break failure indicator is a safety feature in vehicles that alerts the driver when there is a problem with the braking system. This warning system is designed to prevent accidents by providing an early warning to the driver that the brakes are not functioning correctly. The break failure indicator typically consists of a warning light on the dashboard that illuminates when there is a problem with the brakes. The braking system is one of the most critical safety features of any vehicle, and it is essential to ensure that it is functioning correctly.

Brake failure can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as worn brake pads, leaky brake lines, or a malfunctioning brake booster. If not detected early, brake failure can lead to serious accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. By having a break failure indicator, drivers can quickly identify any issues with the brakes and take appropriate action to prevent accidents. It is crucial to address any brake problems as soon as possible by taking the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or automotive service center to ensure that the braking system is functioning correctly.

Though the world is getting modernized, we have to face so many problems. One of such problems is accidents. One of the things that everyone tried to avoid is while traveling is accidents, and sometimes it is inevitable.

Now- a-days we can see accidents in every nook and corner of the world. It results in the death of thousands of lives. With the population ever climbing there are more vehicles than ever on road, which means there is a higher livelihood of the brakes giving out.

In foreign countries they take remedial measures for the prevention of accidents but our country like India takes less action against the prevention of accidents. One common cause for accidents is brake failure. Accidents may occur due to brake failure. In such a situation my project brake failure indicator plays an important role in controlling accidents.

All of these things can cause the brake failure. In order to solve this problem, the researcher chooses the ‘Brake failure indicator’ as my project. There are many precautions that should be undertaken while using a vehicle. The brake failure indicator circuit is a combination of various products like LED, piezo buzzer, sensor etc and it is capable to avoid accidents. This is the major benefit of this project. Since it works automatically, it is very easy to use.

Even though the existing products are capable to indicate accidents, but it can only indicate brake failure or failure of electric circuit, when the brake is applied. But my product senses the chance of brake failure by monitoring the brake switch and reminds you of the condition of brake every time, when the brake is applied. Several specific issues can help contribute to brake failure. Some problems include hydraulic lines not being attached properly and overheating brakes, which can damage brake pads or rotors. Therefore, in Nigeria where the research was carried out, the activities that was conducted is to construct an Automatic Automobile Brake Failure Indicator with Buzzer.


1.3 Statement of Problems

Investigation revealed that accidents are occurring due to lot of reasons, the one of the main reason is brake failure, it caused to due to poor maintenance, improper use and product defect, in order to safe guard the valuable human for accident the accident monitoring of brake is very important issue in automobile.

Also, according to Ashwini et al. (2022), the common braking is not sufficient for avoidance of accidents when driver is not active. Further enhancement has to be done in braking system in order to stop a car or any vehicle when driver is not able to brake. Thus, it needs automatic braking system. This automatic braking system allows the vehicle to brake without support of the driver (Ashwini et al., 2022).


1.4 Aim and Objectives of Study

The aim of the study is to design and construct an Automatic Automobile Brake Failure Indicator with Buzzer. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows to construct an automobile braking system that will:

  1. Continuously monitor the braking system at each and every time during the operation of the vehicle;
  2. Avoid small number of accidents involving trains and boats caused by brake failure;
  3. Indicate the failure of brake switch and identify whether the brake is functioning;
  4. Measure the change in hydrolytic pressure and fluid leakage; and
  5. Connect the audio visual indicator with a sensor and measure the fluid breaking pressure.

1.5 Significance of Study

The result of the findings will be significant in providing a smooth ride for the motorist and when the brake is applied in order to slow down or to stop the vehicle the green LED blinks and the piezo buzzer beeps for about one second if the brake system is accurate and working properly. If brake system fails the red LED glows and the buzzer do not beep when the brakes are applied.

This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.


1.6 Scope of Study

The scope of the research is focused on design and construction of an Automatic Automobile Brake Failure Indicator with Buzzer.


1.7 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  3. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  4. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).
