    Automatic Student CGPA Compiler

    1.1 Introduction.

The rate of increase in error in students’ grade computation in an examination is very high due to the use of manual methods. This had revealed that the significance of a well-organized CGPA compiler for calculating student CGPA cannot be underrated. The CGPA compiler is a program used for computing students’ CGPA by means of a well-organized program (CGPA compiler) in a computer. The improper method of computing students’ grade in most of the tertiary institutions have obviously contributed negatively on students’ performance. The use of manual method is by far less efficient and time consuming than any automated method. This is due to the limitation by human nature such as unskilled mode of calculating operation, time wasting and many other factors resulting in calculating error. The accuracy and quality of information provided by computer system is very high. Thus, organizations will be able to compute the results of student accurately and very reliably. With this, time constraints, error prone as well as mechanical machines failures are eliminated to some extent since it is what you give to the computer that it will give back to you. Thus error realized may only be gross error and can easily be debugged and corrected. In addition, computers are much faster in processing speed; allow easy storage of document and easy retrieval of students’ documents. Programming language is used for this project is Visual Basic.

    1.2 Background Of The Study

This project work is specially designed to enable us implement a CGPA compiler for calculating students grades in the Department of Computer Engineering in Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe − Oghara and beyond. There have been much emphases on a computer or a more reliable and effective method of calculating students’ CGPA, due to the fact that the previously used manual method have obviously failed to yield accurate and reliable results.
Also, observations have shown that since the establishments of this institution, computerization of students’ grade have been done through less effectivemethod in most of the departments including the department of Computer Engineering. Hence, we have chosen to come out with a more effective and reliable method that will be able to yield a reliable and accurate result on students’ grade computerization.

    1.3 Statement Of Problem

The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the students’ is indispensable for his/her career and life pursuit, because it determines whether the student will further his/her educational career or not. However, it have been observed that students’ grade have many a time been calculated with often a grade lesser than the students’ grade which have been posted as their final results and this have negatively affect some students who are victim of such circumstance academically or otherwise. Moreover, cases have been witnessed where some students called for recalculation oftheir grade but could not be done effectively. Hence, the major aim of this work is to provide a method that will eliminate the above problems and present students’ grade accurately.
