    ABSTRACT

Abattoir is a facility approved and registered by the controlling authority for hygienic slaughtering and inspection of animals, processing and effective preservation and storage of meat products for human consumption. The aim of the study is to examine the Bio Enzymes Production By Microorganisms isolated from Abattoir Effluents using Guava Leaves as Substrate. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to examine the level of contamination of the abattoir effluent using Guava Leaves as Substrate, evaluate the antimicrobial effects of guava tree leaf extracts on diarrhea-causing bacteria, find out the Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli strains isolated from seabob shrimp as well as on laboratory culture strains, and evaluate whether differences between laboratory and environmental strains existed. Effluent samples from three points (discharge point, upstream and downstream) were collected from Akunlemu abattoir in Oyo town, Nigeria. Physicochemical parameters and microbiological analyses of the samples were carried out. Data were collected from the primary source which questionnaire was used as an instrument of data collection while secondary data were sources from textbooks, journals, newspapers and the internet were employed. This study will be of immense benefit to micro biologist, and other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.

    1.1 Introduction

Bio Enzymes Production are proteins that act as biological catalysts (biocatalysts). Catalysts accelerate chemical reactions. The molecules upon which enzymes may act are called substrates, and the enzyme converts the substrates into different molecules known as products. Almost all metabolic processes in the cell need enzyme catalysis in order to occur at rates fast enough to sustain life (Stryer et al., 2002).

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.

    CHAPTER TWO

    LITERATURE REVIEW

    2.1 Introduction

This chapter focuses on the review of related literature. A literature review includes the current knowledge as well as theoretical and methodological contributions to a particular topic. It documents the state of the art with respect to the topic you are writing. It surveys the literature in the topic selected. In this research work the literature review includes the conceputal review, theoretical framework, the review of related literature …
