ABSTRACT

The project computer controlled electronic voting system is a design/circuit design that monitors every inputted card into the box.

It consists of a caved wooden box that has an input for cards, sensors for monitoring every inputted card and some biasing components.

The computer interface is written with a program called usual basic used in interfacing to the hardware through the help of several cable connections.

The computer counts the number of times that the card is inserted into the box and takes record on the computer screen.



Construction of a Computer Controlled Electronic Voting System


1.0 Introduction

Computer controlled electronic voting system is a circuit design that monitors input of card into the ballot box which is a temporarily sealed container usually cuboids with a narrow slot in the top sufficient to accept a ballot paper in an election which prevents anyone from accessing the votes cast until the close of the voting period. It will usually be located in a polling station.

Although in some countries, notably, Ireland and Russia there may also be the voting systems taken to peoples homes where they would otherwise be unable to travel to the polling station.

Transparent boxes may be used in order for people to be able to witness that the box is empty prior to the start of the election (i.e. not stuffed with fraudulent votes) and probably turn the monitor screen (display unit) to the people to show them that it counts zero (0) prior to the election.

At the close of the election, the results are displayed to the voter via the monitor screen and the results from all the polling station sent to a single location (control station) via the internet using email and the general result announced to the general voters.

Electronic voting system is a term comprising different types of voting, embarrassing both electronic means of casting a vote and electronic means of counting votes.

1.1 Purpose and Motivation of the Project

The purposed and motivation of this project include the following:

  1. To eliminate the possibility of invalid and doubtful votes which in many cases are the root causes of controversies and election malpractices and petitions.
  2. It makes the process of vote counting much faster than the conventional system.
  3. To reduce cost of printing almost Nil as only one sheet of ballot paper is required for each polling station.
  4. Our ecosystem is becoming harsh due to adverse use of our natural resources. This project reduces to a great extent the quality of paper used thus saving a large number of trees thereby making the process eco-friendly.

Aim and Objective of the Design

The aim and objective of this project design is geared towards ensuring that voting can be made accessible for persons with disability.

They should be able to provide immediate feedback to the voter detecting such possibility problems like under voting and over voting which may result in a spoiled ballot. This immediate feedback can be helpful in determining voter intent.

Furthermore, it has been alleged by groups such as the UK-based open right group that lack of testing, inadequate audit procedure and insufficient attention given to system and process design with electronic voting leaves elections open to error and fraud. But with the introduction of a computer controlled electronic voting system, these problems can be checked.
