1.1 Introduction
An electrical extension box is an enclosure housing electrical connections. Extension boxes protect the electrical connections from the weather, as well as prevent people from accidental electric shocks. Electric wires are electrical conductors in form of a slender rod while electric cables are conductors which consist of two or more insulated wires grouped together in an overall covering (Stauart et al., 2000). Resistors can either be connected in series or parallel (Keith, 1990). As the world becomes concerned with conserving electric power and the fuels that generate electricity, there is a growing need for the conscientious homeowner to keep an eye on and minimize their power usage.
Vampire or standby power is loosely defined as the “electrical power consumed by appliances while they are switched off (but are designed to draw some power) or in a standby mode.
