ABSTRACT

This project work involves the construction of bookshelf for storing books with wood and nail.

The wood for the construction was seasoned wood that has preservation and without defect. It was first assembled. With finishes for good appearance. in the construction process, both mechanical and manual process was used to produce a suitable bookshelf.

The equipment and tools used in the construction include hammer for driving the nails, saws for cutting the woods, chisel and mallet for opening the joints used in the construction which includes dovetail joint on the drawers and between vertical and horizontal members of the shelves, terror joints, but joint at the top cover member of the shelf are box joint.

The bookshelf is made up of front, back, two side top and down with plywood, hard and soft wood with different dimensions as case may be with the capacity of 128books.

1.0 Introduction

A bookshelf or bookcase is a piece of furniture with horizontal shelves, use to store books. It is clear that as a furniture wood is the Chief construction material use in the construction of bookshelf even though glass is used in some case.

Bookshelf is mainly used for storing books in our homes, school libraries and offices and also used in storing other house hold equipments like compact Disc and plates, catteries and glass plates etc.

In the construction of bookshelf, precautions should be taken both on the materials for construction and when constructing to produce an efficient bookshelf and for long duration of the bookshelf.

1.1 Aim and Objective of the Study

The objectives of this project is to expose the student in construction of wooden works. Bookshelf is used in storing books, and also to put down a procedure for the construction of bookshelf.


1.2 Scope of the Study

The scope of this project is the construction of bookshelf with the use of wood and nail.


1.3 Limitation of the Study

The limitation encountered in this project work is as follows:

Cost of Materials:

As it stands now in the market, things are very costly as regard to the materials for the construction of the bookshelf. The expected amount has increase leading to addition of money.

Time Factor:

Is seen as if the time provided by the authority to write and finish the project was not enough and secondly, this is our first experience and exposure in project writing.
