ABSTRACT

Anti car theft device is an electronic device which is installed into a car restricting an unauthorized user gaining access to the car.

Nowadays car crimes are wide spread in all countries and unfortunately any vehicle is any vehicle is a vulnerable thing for thieves and that is why modern vehicle are usually equipped with factory fitted security system which may come in various types like, Alarm system; which is one of the best known car security devices, alarm system makes audible warning sounds when a car door or trunk is opened. A good car alarm depends on the sensor.

Steering wheel; look these devices are very effective in fight with joy riders and amateur thieves. With their help the string wheel is firmly fitted which makes the car theft practically impossible and unturnable.

Electronic keys; this is preinstalled electronic system that allows the vehicle to operate only with a correct coded keys.

Some other types are VinEtching, trackers etc.

Reasons why we put car theft devices are because the items is very expensive, impossible to be replaced if lost.

Countries that apply good policies add some benefits to car owners which make them receive savings on most insurance by installing and using anti theft devices.

This project work makes use of password which is encrypted and passed through some authenticated protocols, which only the right password can on the motor while wrong password triggers the alarm. There is also provision for a reset, change of pin codes, automatic disablement of the keypad car after three times input of wrong pin codes.

The project relates generally to security systems for vehicle. More particularly, it relates to automotive security systems with immobilizer devices. This report produces a comprehensive explanation of how the project was realized.

Subsequent chapters are organized as follows, chapter one is introduction, chapter 2 contains the literature review. And principles of operation and construction is described in chapter 3 and conclusion and recommendation makes up chapter 4.

1.0 Introduction

There was a day when nobody thought about anti — theft device for their cars. Automobiles were parked on the street or in parking lots, doors unlocked, windows wide open and nobody worried about their car getting stolen. But now we have got a huge investment out there on the road and buying an anti — theft device for a car is pretty much standard practice today.

Over the past decade, the number of auto thefts has increased at an alarming pace. No longer the province of the teenager going on a joy ride, or the young thug stealing a car for drug money, auto theft has become big business.

The purpose of this study is to examine what technology in conjunction with the major players in the problem, can do to reduce the number of auto theft.

This study shows that a unified effort does reduce the number of auto thefts, but more needs to be done in the future in order to manager the problem effectively. From the invention of first lock and key to the introduction of RFID tags and biometric identification.

Manufactures of anti — theft devices have kept pace with the growing demand to protect cars from being stolen. And the industry has progressed from mechanical locking devices to the sophisticated ratio devices that are now standard equipment in many luxury automobiles. Some insurance companies will provide you with a rate discount if you use these devices.

The first documented case of car theft was in 1896, by Potney Hoot and Senly Pohky in Northern Germany. But by June 16, 1939 a stronger electronic device was designed to tackle car theft problems. March 15, 1960 — David Gutman, the inventor, began working on his device several years ago out of sympathy for the large. To stop this traffic, Mr Jagger has patented an auto — theft alarm. When the check writer unlocked for use, the alarm was operative.

April 11, 1967, His invention comes on the heel of President Johnson. He announced war on crime at a time when Detroits, automakers are fretting that they may have to add anti — theft device well as safety gadgets.

About fifteen years ago.

There was a sharp rise in the number of cars stolen and desire by consumers to have a simple mechanical locking device to help protect their cars and their investments. Early devices include relatively crude anti — theft steering wheel lock until the day the club was introduced.

The original club is still the top mechanical steering wheel lock used in the world. It includes steel construction that resist both saving and hammering. The device was made to universally fit all kinds of vehicles — cars, truck, vans and suv.

Next up on the sophistication ladder of anti — theft device for cars are the electronic engine immobilizers. These electronic devices immobilize a car by shutting off a portion of the car's electrical or fuel system making if difficult, if not impossible for a thief to steal a car.

These immobilizer can be activated through a small radio device via an on — board system that detects an intruder tampering with the car.

Automotive security system often, include immobilizer devices i.e , devices that prevent unauthorized use of a vehicle. They automatically interrupt the power to multiple electronic circuits, usually the starter motor, ignition and fuel pump circuits, when the specially coded key is removed from the ignition switch , or the vehicle is shut off.

Types of Auto Theft Devices

  1. Steering wheel locks, which has an excellent visual deterrent , are relatively inconvenient to use and can not be relied on to physically stop a thief.
  2. Kill switch: A hidden switch that needs to be flipped on for the car to start, kill switches can be start up to prevent the flow of electricity or fuel to the engine until the switch is activated. Relative to their effectiveness as a security device. Kill switches are typically inexpensive and easy to install.
  3. Satellite tracking device is excellent for locating stolen vehicle offer no visual deterrence.
  4. Car alarm create an audio deterrent, the effectiveness of which is reduced by the frequency of false alarms. Consider a backup power source for the alarm as professionals could deactivate the alarm if they get to the power source.

Other auto theft devices include, vin Etch, Electronic keys etc.

Risk Factors

Transportation and financial gain are the most common reason for vehicle theft.

Significance of Study

Security devices are hidden in the car to thoroughly thwart most thieves. Having your car stolen is not only emotionally upsetting. But also very time consuming and expensive. Unfortunately, car theft is all too common.

This anti car theft is used to secure a car, thereby saving the user a lot of money. Devices like this will frustrate thieves, causing them to leave your car alone.
