ABSTRACT

The Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password) is a design that applies automated security system in homes, Industries, military etc. The aim of the study is to Design and Construct a Wireless Lock System through OTP. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to construct a Wireless Lock System that will send OTP code to the user’s mobile device and build a platform for further sophistication of automated security system by detailing all the measures taken in realizing this system. Data used in this work is derived primary from secondary sources. The methodology therefore, is basically documentary in nature. This involves learning new facts and principles through the study of documents and records. The documents and records include journals, textbooks, official publications etc. By putting together logically evidence derived from documents and records. Conclusion which either established facts hitherto unknown or sound generalization can be obtained. This project will also build a platform for further sophistication of automated security system by detailing all the measures taken in realizing this system.(microcomputer Based Security System). This will ensure a complete intruder proof system which will take care of future intrusion technique.

Design and Construction of Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password)

1.0 Introduction

1.1 Background of Study

The Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password) is a design that applies automated security system in homes, Industries, military etc. The project will feature a system that will track the presence of an intruder in restricted area and also inform the user about the position of the intruder.

Security is defined as the means of safety and protection of property, assets and life. By preventing unauthorized entry, security system ensures the safety of things and human life (Ushie et al., 2013). It is needed to focus on the door lock security with the use of latest technology as traditional mechanical lock security is easily broken in most of the robberies and crimes. So, it is decided to develop the invisible lock with security camera application.

The proposed system is designed and developed that uses existing security camera that are mounted over the door that works on sensing of OTP. Modern door lock system includes RF ID card, Smart card based authentication that may be cloned for breaking the system. One time disposable authentication mechanisms (Ushie, 2013) are more reliable than these systems. This mechanism uses OTP with IOT devices using Raspberry Pi processor (Navya, 2015).

The earliest security systems were generally expensive very hard to monitor, for some systems man power is required and some are time consumed. In traditional intruder alarm system, the amount of alerts becomes unmanageable (Nandeesh et al., 2014); as a result, it is difficult to understand by user. Someare password based in which it was found that there may be possibilities of leaking or hacking of password. Some require internet connection due to this it may be complicated and expensive and also possibilities of internet range problem. Biometric identification technique may lead to some problems like in iris, palmtop recognition it may fail due to same structures. In this biometric identification fixed position image is necessary and if the image will not positioned properly then it will lead to error.

This Project will be based on microcontroller and other electronic design to achieve the above stated purposes. The interfacing medium will make use of parallel port. The sensors (Light Dependent Resistor and LEDS) will receive the signal when the intruder is around while the control program will translate the received signal from the sensors to useful information about the function of the system.

In this design we have implored the use of both hardware and software to bring about the entire project. The hardware components are solely coordinated by the AT89S52 micro controller chip while the assembly programming language is used to program the chip. Therefore, in Nigeria where the research was carried out, the activities that was conducted is to Design and Construct a Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password).

1.2 Aim and Objectives of Study

The aim of the study is to Design and Construct a Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password). In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out as follows:

  1. To construct a Wireless Lock System that will send OTP code to the user’s mobile device.
  2. To provide a cost effective and more efficient security system in areas like homes, industries military etc.
  3. To build a platform for further sophistication of automated security system by detailing all the measures taken in realizing this system.

1.3 Significance of Study

Environmental security against an intruder has become a thing of individual, national and international concern. The essence of this project is to provide a cost effective and more efficient security system in areas like homes, industries military etc. The application of this project will enhance effectiveness necessitating to security measures. It relevance, upgrades the conventional security system to automated system that will require little of human intervention. This project will also build a platform for further sophistication of automated security system by detailing all the measures taken in realizing this system (microcomputer Based Security System). This will ensure a complete intruder proof system which will take care of future intrusion technique.

This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.

1.4 Scope of the Study

The study focuses on the Design and Construction of Wireless Lock System through OTP (One Time Password).

1.5 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:

  1. Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features.
  2. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study.
  3. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power.
  4. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).
