ABSTRACT

Birthday alarm system for Lecturers is a simple program that reminds students of their lecturers’ birthdays. The aim of the study is to design and implement a Birthday Alarm System for Lecturers. In achieving this aim, the specific objectives were set out as follows to develop an application software that will enable the Birthday Alarm System for Lecturers to be compatible in any browser accessible devices and facilitate early notification / reminder of scheduled lecture’s birthday. The motivation that led to the implementation of the proposed system is that lecturers sometimes forget their birthday and the existing system lacks compatible devices to execute the application software. The methodology adopted in this study is the structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object throughout the software development process. The programming language used is HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP, SQL and JQUERY. The reason why web programming languages was used is because, it is platform independent and it is a web based application. Birthday Alarm System for Lecturers has many features that very helpful to the user. The system will also help to arrange the lecturers’ birthday with furtherance to their order of priority. The expected result is a computerized Birthday Alarm System for Lecturers that will notify lecturers about their birthday and at the same time make things easier for staff and lecturer to check their birthday date.

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

Lecturers’ birthday alarm system is a simple program that reminds users of important birthdays. There's not much to it, but it does provide birthday reminders as promised (CNET, 2021). A birthday constitutes a ritual milestone that takes place in the present and connects the past and future. This special day marks the passage of time, and is also a consequence of the biological maturation, growth, and aging that ties humans to linear time. The tradition of celebrating an individual’s day of birth is thought to have existed from the ancient times (Salzman, 2012). Socially, a birthday usually involves a party that focuses on him. In episodic time, it is also a public occasion in which the social status of a person changes; A 26-year-old child becomes a proud 27-year-old on that special day. However, birthdays are not celebrated at any chosen time, but only on the date of birth, because this is the cultural construction of time as a cyclical system.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.
