    ABSTRACT


    Enterococcus faecalis is a non-spore-forming fermentative, facultatively anaerobic Gram-positive coccus. The study isolates the E. Faecalis from Municipal Waste from Bioemzyme Production. In achieving this aim, the following specific objectives were laid out to isolate the E. Faecalis obtained from Bioemzyme Production waste, determine the Isolation process of E. Faecalis from Waste Samples and evaluate the microbiological and biochemical Characteristic of Isolated E. Faecalis. Data used in this work is derived primary from secondary sources. The methodology therefore, is basically documentary in nature. This involves learning new facts and principles through the study of documents and records. The documents and records include journals, textbooks, newspapers, magazines, official publications etc. By putting together logically evidence derived from documents and records. Conclusion which either established facts hitherto unknown or sound generalization can be obtained. E. faecalis infections spread from person to person through poor hygiene. Because these bacteria are found in feces, people can transmit the infection if they don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom. The bacteria can get into food or onto surfaces such as doorknobs, telephones, and computer keyboards. From there, they can pass to other people. This study will be of immense benefit to researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.




    1.1 Introduction

    Enterococcus faecalis is a non-spore-forming fermentative, facultatively anaerobic Gram-positive coccus. It is an opportunistic pathogen associated with oral infections including marginal periodontitis, infected root canals and periradicular abscesses (Rôças et al., 2004). Its association with treatment failure in root-filled teeth is reported to be significant (Rôças et al., 2004). Despite having limited ability to compete in primary infections, E. faecalis has been shown to be more persistent in chronic and asymptomatic infections. Its durability in response to disinfection agents and mechanisms of long- term survival in adverse conditions has been noted (Rôças et al., 2004).

    As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study.
