Racism and Oppression in Black American Literature: An Example of Richard Wright’s Black Boy

CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

According to Wikipedia, racism in literary studies is the idea that racial differences result in a particular race's inherent superiority and that the genetic components of race are the main causes of human traits and capacities. We refer to the effects of racism as racial discrimination. While racism is typically associated with prejudice, violence, hostility, discrimination, or oppression based on race. Racism can also be defined as the economic system's cultural, ethnic, and political practices reflected in it. The word RACISM comes from the idea that some racial or ethnic group is inferior to others and that, as a result, their treatment is legitimate.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitation of the study and Definition of technical terms.
