ABSTRACT


The issue of over population has been a problem in which no defined solution has been found to solve. This study was to investigate the attitude of Aba south couples towards birth control. The objective is to find out the level and usage of birth control method in the area and then conclude that the attitude of couples towards maintaining a target population.

The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire and it covered such areas as age, number of children born to each woman, definition of birth control, awareness of birth control programme, and effects of birth control devices, how they get information that lead to the knowledge of birth control methods, how birth control studies are got.

Level of attitude towards birth control and suggestion on how to improve the best control programm in the area. A total of 240 questionnaires were distributed to the number of married couple in Aba south. Bearing in main that not enough desired attitude of married couples in Aba south local government area has been made by the birth control programm, thereby papering married couple attitude towards birth control, much work still have to be done as to improved the couple attitude it recommended that the state and local government should alleviate the plight of not only the married couples but all the inhabitant of area as the regards birth control programme in Aba south.




1.0 Introduction

Birth control has being an old scientific practice that is adopted voluntarily upon, the basis of knowledge, decision by individual and couples in order to promote the health and welfare of the family and thus contribute effectively to the social development of a country and the world at large. Some of the factors that affect the attitude of married couples towards birth control are-psychological factors which involves the manner in which women perceive their sex roles sex-role refers to the expectation of the society as regards what role a females or male should play. And the socio-cultural factors which include-the educational level, income level and the impact of residential background.

Onukogu and Onyewenjo (2007) portrays some of the natural birth control methods, these are-the basal body temperature, the cervical mucous on the billings ovulation method and the symptom- thermal method. These methods are means by which the couple uses the daily observation of signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of the menstrual cycle to guide the timing of intercourse according to their desire to achieve or avoid pregnancy.

Many children are languishing in untold suffering of hunger; poor education and poor place of bode. These problems led the researcher in carrying out this study in order to enable married couples give birth to the number of children they can take care of.

1.1 Objectives of the Study

  1. To knows the level of awareness of birth control among Aba south, married couples.
  2. To knows whether the level of education affects birth control practices.
  3. To know if income level of married affect their participation in birth control planning.
  4. To know if it can be possible to reduce the rate of population growth through birth control.

1.2 Statement of Problem

The precise purpose of this research is to carry out an analysis on the attitude of married couples towards birth control in Aba south.

It is this worrisome observations on the ignorance of some married towards birth control that led the researcher to write on this project topic to enable the society know the implications of having children one can not take care-of, the methods used in birth control and the make viable recommendations to the authorities of Aba south more especially the family support unit on how to create awareness the importance of birth control.


1.3 Significance of Study

The research work is intended to evaluate the problem associated to birth control in Aba south as well as finding proper solution to control the hazards.

To the government this research will be of help; They will use the results of the data collected to make futures plans and inferences.

It will help married couples in knowing the importance of birth control

Moreover, the futures leaders and researchers will equally derive much from some of the suggestions; findings made here in and continue from where the researcher stopped


1.4 Scope of Study

This project work covers the area of Aba South as case study. It will also cover the statistical techniques of chi-square.


1.5 Limitations of Study

This project is limited to only one local government area in Aba in Abia state

I faced a lot of problems during the course of this research work which among others include-lack of materials, time constraints and also some of the respondents were reluctant to attend to the research questions which took the research extra time and effort to convince such person.

  • Ho: there is no significant different in the attitude of married couples towards birth control.
  • H1: there is significant difference in the attitude of married couples towards birth control.
