1.0 Introduction

1.1 Background of Study

Education in this country and outside have over these years geared up. Importance should be attached to the level of performance of boys, girls school and co-educational secondary schools in Isoko North L.G.A., Delta State. It is not often realized that the type of secondary school purely on the basis of gender can have a tremendous effect on student’s level of performance in their academic students / courses.

Youth's transition out of high school and into college and career settings can be a complex process informed by youth's awareness of available opportunities and resources, perceptions of social norms, and sense of social belonging (Sandler, 2000). Those who study a life course perspective (Elder, Johnson, & Crosnoe, 2003) suggest that socio-historical contexts inform youth's and families' sense of available resources and possible control to accomplish socially prescribed role transitions (e.g., entering into college, entering into the workforce). In addition, cultural values that align with and/or contradict mainstream values may force youth to constantly evaluate which norms inform their behavior.

Furthermore, a reduced accumulation of wealth can make ethnic-racial minority families more vulnerable to social political contexts that impact the availability of social resources. Together, the life course and cultural ecological perspectives highlight the importance of accounting for the social context in which youth reside along with the psychological processes that inform how youth react to such contexts when transitioning out of high school and into adult roles.

This is as a result of general unemployment and harsh business environment in the country today. This in turn has caused the women to go out in search of gainful employment in order to support the dwindling financial up-keep of the family. It is common knowledge that some girl’s secondary schools are predominantly staffed by female teachers, while some boy’s secondary schools on the other hand are mostly staffed by male teachers.
