ABSTRACT

Bleaching is a process in which natural colouring matter is removed from a fibre to make it white. This process can be extended to other uses for example in yarn or fabrics or pulp and paper industries where cellulose used in making paper is bleached to white. Bleach solution can also be defined as any solution that is capable of bleaching colouring matters. Bleach solution ranges from simple to complex types in various trade names like parazone, jik etc. The research work examines the Production of bleach solution comparatively to commercially produced bleach solution. In achieving this aim, the specific objectives were set out to harness the available raw materials for the production of bleach solution in the country, produce quality bleach, which will be affordable to the masses comparatively to others produced and sold costly in the market, and establish medium scale industries for employment of young school leavers thus making them to become self-reliant. The result of the findings will be of great importance to our society because things like domestic work in our homes.

1.1 Introduction

Bleaching is a process in which natural colouring matter is removed from a fiber to make it white. This process can be extended to other uses for example, in yarn or fabrics or in pulp and paper industries where cellulose used in making paper is bleached to white. Bleach solution can also be defined as any solution that is capable of bleaching colouring matters. Bleach solution ranges from simple to complex types in various trade names like parazone, Jik etc. They completely depend on the makes up of the ingredient materials.

As a prelude to other parts of this study, this chapter will discuss the background upon which this study was initiated, the statement of problems that led to this study, the Aim and Objectives of the study. Others are Significance of the study, Scope of work, Limitations of the Study and Definition of technical terms.

1.2 Background of Study

According to Madehow (2021), bleach is a chemical compound derived from natural sources used to whiten fabrics. Bleach works by the process of oxidation or the alteration of a compound by the introduction of oxygen molecules. A stain is essentially a chemical compound, and the addition of bleach breaks down the molecules into smaller elements so that it separates from the fabric. Detergent and the agitation of the washing machine speed up the cleaning process. The disinfecting properties of bleach work in the same manner - germs are broken down and rendered harmless by the introduction of oxygen. In industry, different forms of bleach are used to whiten materials such as paper and wood, though most bleach is used to launder textiles (Madehow, 2021).

The purpose of this study is to produce a bleach solution that will be affordable to the common man in the society. The reason for this study is to produce a bleach solution that will be of high quality compared to the commercially produced ones in the market.

1.3 Statement of the Problem

Investigation reveals the following problems of the Production of Bleach Solution and Comparative Study of Commercially Produced Bleach Solution:

  1. The cost of producing a bleach solution is expensive to the common man in the society.
  2. Lack of high quality production of bleach solution that will be of compared to the commercially produced ones in the market.

There has been the problem of low quality production of bleach by various producing firm in Nigeria. This study is set to assess the production of bleach solution, self-empowerment of our young school leavers in Nigeria.

1.4 Aim and Objectives of Study

The aim of the study is to examine the Production of bleach solution comparatively to commercially produced bleach solution. In achieving this aim, the specific objectives were set out as follows:

  1. To harness the available raw materials for the production of bleach solution in the country.
  2. To produce quality bleach, which will be affordable to the masses comparatively to others produced and sold costly in the market.

To establish medium scale industries for employment of young school leavers thus making them to become self-reliant.

CHAPTER TWO
