Environmental Carcinogens; Source Effect and Control

1.0 Introduction

1.1 Environment Carcinogen

According to the international agency for research on cancer and evaluation of carcinogenic agents, a terms of toxizologists, cancer biologists, epidemiologist of cancer and exports, in 1971 collected data on more 900 agents and evaluated the carcinogenicity of approximately 400 especially heir carcinogenic potential to humans and the risk to which it causes cancer under certain environmental conditions. “1960, the national cancer institute under the directorship of Dr. K. Endic oh, formulated a concept of testing chemical and environmental carcinogen is in experimental animal as a surfogate for human risk.

Any of the natural or synthesis substance that can cause cancer, such agent physical agents, hormones, and viruses. Some environmental carcinogens are arsenic asbestos, uranium, vinyl chloride, ionizing radiation, ultraviolet rays, x-rays and coaltar derivatives.

Carcinogenic effects of chemicals may be delayed for as long as 30yrs. Other carcinogens produce more immediate effects. Some studies indicates that the carcinogens are unreactive to primary carcinogens numerous factors, such as heredity, effect the susceptibilities of different individual to cancer — causing agents.

Brief Note On Environmental Carcinogen

In recent years epidemiologist and cancer specialist agree that chemicals are of critical importance in inducing cancer.

Exogenous chemical carcinogenesis is an extremely complex multi-factorial process during which exposure to chemical carcinogens and polymorphisms of cancer susceptibility genes add further complexity. These exogenous chemical (carcinogens could be major contributors to human cancer.
